I have had an attach of Denial of Service on one of our internet switches. The processor usage shot up to 99%. This was resolved by checking running processes, identify the process with the problem and then map it to a particular port on the switch.


How do you intend to use the knowledge gained at the workshop?

There is alot of ongoing network expansions going on in the company today which include the migration to IPv6, MPLS.

My Country (Uganda) is in the process of rolling out IPv6. Currently they are in the process of Policy making. I will be very involved in this process on both company and national level.

We have a 3 counnections to the Internet 
- To Uganda's Internet Exchange Point.
- A connection to ISP1 (Teams) using a Cisco 7200 edge Router (STM 4 link).
- A connection to ISP2 (Seacom) using a Cisco 7200 edge Router (STM 1 link).
These connections then are dropped into two (redundant) 12000 routers (for MPLS) which then connect to to 4500 internet access switches for access.

Generally all ISPs run a BGP session to the National Internet Exchange Point to keep local traffic local.

My work revolves around IP networks, their design, implementation and management. I have good knowledge to be eligible for SI-E track. 
I'm also very passionate about my work, I'm looking forward to this training.

- I will participate to a great extent in the ongoing expansions and upgrades of the IP Networks here at Orange.
- Uganda is experiencing a boom in Internet Usage. Orange is currently the leading internet provider of Internet in the country. Our improvement in services will greatly impact the the whole country.

In my career journey, the AFNOG workshop would be a very important landmark. However I dont have full assurance that my employer will cover all my expenses. 
My country has very few Network Engineers at least good ones. Most of the core IP network jobs are usually outsourced. With my knowledge and skills improved, I will bring to my company and the country an affordable/local expertise that match expertriates'.
